In-Person Tutoring
Tutoring Guidelines

A Tutoring Enterprises

  1. Appointment Times: Times are generally open if you call two or three days in advance. You will be fit in even if you are asking for an appointment right away, but openings tend to decrease in those cases. Appointments are given on a first-come/first-serve basis.

  2. Canceling an Appointment: There will be no charge if you cancel 24 hours or more before your appointment time. After that, you should expect to pay for your entire time span irregardless of any attempts to contact A Tutoring. A Tutoring reserves the option to disregard a fee if an emergency has caused the cancellation, but this will generally only happen once. If A Tutoring is able to fill the time slot or part of the time slot with another student, you will only be charged for the time not filled.

  3. Showing Up: I prefer that students show up within 5 to 10 minutes before their start time. Although I will not generally turn away a student that shows up 15 or more minutes early, you should not expect to start until your set start time. I may be busy doing something else at that time. I will ask you to sit and wait for you start time. In these cases, I might choose to start early if I'm not busy.

  4. Showing Up Late and Extra Time: If you are late for an appointment, you are still responsible to pay for the time slot you've asked for including any time you missed. In general, you should only expect to only stay to the end of your appointed time. If you want extra time and I have available time to extend our tutoring session, you will be charged from the appointed start time to the time we finish.

  5. Ending Early: If you have to leave before the set finish time, you will generally be expected to pay for the entire time span. I will try to be a bit flexible here. Five or ten minutes is not a problem, and I will generally not charge you for this time unless it becomes your habit. But if you set an appointment for an hour or two and only end up needing a half hour, you should expect to pay for the entire time slot you asked for.

  6. Food and Drinks: Feel free to bring what you want as long as it doesn't cause a mess. I won't expect you to bring enough for everyone.

  7. Bounced Checks: I do accept checks. Generally, this has not been a problem. But your bounced check could cause one or more of my checks to bounce and my bank enjoys charging me $25 for each check I bounce as well as charging me $10 for your bounced check. Therefore, I have no choice but to charge you $35 if your check bounces. I will not resubmit your check until I call you and make sure you've taken care of putting enough money into your account to cover it. (I know your bank enjoys charging you too.) Also, if you think your check might bounce, just ask me to wait on cashing it. I don't generally have a problem with that.

  8. Interest and Charges on Unpaid Balances: I do not assess any fees with outstanding balances or tabs. Tabs must be paid off once they are $50 or more. I will not allow further appointments to be made if your tab is $50 or more.

  9. End of the Course: I have had a few cases of students failing to pay their final bill at the end of the semester. Since then, I have obtained the services of a collections bureau. Their fee is 50% of whatever they collect. So in order for A Tutoring to collect the original unpaid balance, the student will be accessed the collection fee as well. That would double your outstanding balance. Please avoid this scenario by taking care of your unpaid balance after your last tutoring session.
